    Chapter 14


    He looked over surprised. I gripped my stomach harder as it hit again more painful. His eyes got wide and he rushed to my side.

    “What’s wrong?” my eyes half open I gave a helpless look.

    “I don’t know. Ehh!” I squeaked.

    Ryder looked just as helpless. “Tell me where it hurts.”

    I pointed to my stomach. It made a weird noise. Ryder raised a brow. He looked up. “Let’s get you inside.” He put my arm around his shoulder and helped me in. He got me back to the big bed and sat me down. He looked at me. “When was the last time you ate?” he questioned. I shrugged. “Since we got here probably but I take the Food Pill.” The Food Pill was a vitamin that you take everyday and you don’t have to eat but maybe one thing a day. They worked great with my schedule since I don’t have a lot of time to eat. Ryder rolled his eyes. A growling erupted in my stomach and I flinched.

    “What is wrong? It’s freaking me out!” I said. Ryder laughed. I glared.

    “This isn’t funny!”

    “Trinity, you’ll live. You’re just hungry. You haven’t taken any of the Food Pills have you?” I shook my head no. He sighed. “As a human who doesn’t take the vitamins, you need to eat. Everyday. Three times a day.” I thought it over and frowned.

    “Why? You mean you don’t take the Food Pill?” He shook his head no this time. “Are you sure that’s all?”

    He laughed. “Yeah, I’m sure Trinity. I’ll go get you something to eat okay?”

    “Okay.” He smiled and took off. I rolled my eyes. Gosh, I’m such an idiot. Maybe I should start taking the vitamins again. I’m sure Wal-Mart has them. I wonder why Ryder doesn’t take them. They were expensive though. I can’t imagine eating three times a day though! Ryder came back with a handful of food. I smiled at all of it. It looked good! It had been a while since I actually ate a whole meal! I mean sure my favorite bag of chips every once in a while but not a lot.

    “Here, dig in.”

    “Ow!” I complained again. Ryder ate a piece of canned fruit. He looked up.

    “What now?”

    I touched my stomach. “It hurts again.”

    “You ate too much.” I growled at him.

    “So I hurt when I don’t eat and when I do?!” He laughed.

    “No. You can eat but don’t kill yourself off eating too much. Just eat as much as you can without throwing up. Jeez, you really don’t eat do you?” He asked surprised.

    “No I don’t. My dad gave them to me as some kind of ‘diet’ after him and my mom started to take them. I can’t remember when I ate a meal.”

    Ryder frowned. “My family and I, we always eat. Since it’s a big family. We sit down and eat supper together every night.” Stunned I stared.

    “Really? Like actually sit down together and have food set all around?” He chuckled.

    “Yeah.” I looked away. That was awesome! I wish my parents would do that.

    “That’s so cool,” I mumbled. He laughed.

    “Its okay but we aren’t as wealthy to get the Food Pills.”
    I frowned. “Their not that expensive. Only about 70$ or 80$ for a bottle,” I said with a shrug. Ryder gave a snort.

    “That’s a lot for my family, Trinity,” Ryder said looking me in the eyes. Wow, he really was broke. Well not him, his family.

    “Do you have any brothers or sisters?” I asked. He nodded vigorously.

    “I have 4 sisters and 5 brothers. There’s 10 all of us together.” My mouth dropped and I couldn’t help it. He laughed.

    “You’re kidding?! 10? I thought that the state had a limit to just two?”

    “They do but my parents are foster parents. If they are adopting and have the right licenses then they can have as many as they want,” Ryder explained.

    “Wow. Who’s the oldest?” I asked curious.

    “Meeka, she’s 19. She’s going to college for child care and coming back to help my mom with the kids. I’m the second oldest,” Ryder said with a smile on his lips.

    “Who’s the youngest?”

    “Chason, he’s I think a year this month,” Ryder said. “He’s the baby of the family and the newest. My parents adopted him when he was 6 months.” I smiled.

    “What about the others?” He sighed.

    “After Meeka its Yvette. She’s 16 and a pain in the a**. Next is Hollyn, she’s 13, I think. Then last is Rainbow, she’s 9 and one of my favorites.” I laughed.

    “You can’t have favorites, that’s wrong.” He just smirked.

    “For the boys, after me its, Jesse, he’s 15. Really quiet, laid back kind of guy. Then its Rance and Rusty. Their twins and talk almost at the same time. They also can be really devious. Special to the girls.” He winked at me. I laughed. “Then Michael who’s 5 and then Chason.”

    “Wow.” was all I could say.

    “So what about you? Do you have any brothers and sister?” I was about to say no but bit my lip.

    “Yeah, actually I do. Older brother. He hasn’t lived with us for about 8 years. Dad hates it when I talk about him so I don’t talk about him. He left because of my dad. He couldn’t handle him anymore. Now I know why.” Ryder gave a small smile and rubbed a thumb over my hand quickly before I could hold his hand. I sighed.

    “His name’s Titan and he would be about 25 now. He and I used to be really close. We would talk about dad and mom together and complain. He always talked about leaving but I never thought he would. I thought our complaining was just something to do, it wasn’t to him. When he left I cried for days. Dad bribed me with gifts and I shut up. I hated my dad for letting him go like that, but what can you do?” I gave a short shrug. Ryder finally put his hand on mine and I turned, palm up to capture it.

    “Yeah, I know what you mean,” he said his voice almost breaking a little. I wondered why?
