tab It was a simple, little dinner, really. Nothing qualifying as fancy or "Easter like." But it was the best dinner of my life, none the less. Just seeing Susan smile again after all that trauma earned it that much.
tab In one week's time, a lot of things could happen. I learned that twice. But no matter how bad things got, things were never so bad that happiness could never be found again.
tab The light at the tunnel's end.
tab The happiness in the middle of sorrow.
tab The hope desired amidst all the despair.
tab It was true, what the pastor said at the funeral. And it was true what I thought three months earlier, with the ketchup stained pocket. Things like that were's just reserved for fairy tales.
tab It doesn't end with happiness, though. Neither does it end with sorrow. Happiness you just find along the way. And that's what Susan had finally done on that Easter day. Her story was far from over, but she had found happiness there, even so.
tab Easter was a time to celebrate. And nothing would stop that. Nothing could ever stop that.
tab With that all said, I'm not sure what Susan is up to today. Maybe she's piecing together what happened with her father. But whatever happens with her, I'll know she'll always come to find relief, somehow.
tab By the way, when I looked out the window that day, I noticed something: A clear, sun shining day. Not a cloud in sight. Not a single drop of rain falling from the sky.
tab A rainbow, arching high above the sky. I always had told myself all good things came to an end. But I never thought to remember that it could work in the opposite way to. The rainbow reminded me of that. After the relentless pour of rain, a beauty like no other had shown.
tab That was life. A storm, and then, a relieving rainbow.
