When I woke up Joel wasn't in the room. I jumped and sat up. "Joel?" I rubbed my eyes and looked around. "Where'd you go?"
A head popped out from the door. "Hm? You call for me?"
I blinked. "Ah... Yeah... I didn't know where you went."
He nodded. "Sorry."
I nodded and scratched my neck. "It's fine..." I looked at him conserned. "How's your arm?"
He held it out and smirked. "It's fine. It's bleeding out or hurting like it's still being burnt, so it's fine."
I sighed. "Sorry about that. I should have been more careful. Sorry." I said sheepishly.
He shrugged. "It's mainly my fault. I shouldn't have pulled away like that. Don't worry about it, okay?"
I hesitated but nodded.
He pointed to the kitchen. "I have something cooking, so... can I go or do you want to ask me something else?"
I stood up. "Cooking? Cooking what, exactly?"
He stood in front of the door and blocked my way out. "Please don't go out yet!"
I blinked and looked at him in confusion. "Uhm... Okay... Why?"
He blushed and looked at the floor. "Just stay in here... Okay?"
I smiled and sat down on my bed. "Okay. But could you at least let me have something to drink? My mouths alittle dry for some reason. Maybe from something I ate last night. I'm not really sure."
He nodded and walked out, only moments later he walked in with a glass of water. He held it out to me and sighed. "I'm sorry for doing this to you, but... It's the least I could do for your kindness..."
I laughed cheesily. "Oh, ah ha ha ha. It's nothing really. My boss would have killed me if I hadn't taken you in."
He looked at me, his eyes filled with hurt.
I jumped. "Ah! Sorry! I didn't mean it like that! I ment to say that... Well... I ment..." I sighed. "I'm sorry... I'm not good at talking to anyone... Forgive me." I say.
He smirked and sighed. "Then how are you able to talk to a whole jury for hours and get their attention with ease? How do you get them to take your side so easily? How do you capture peoples hearts with only a few words?" He asked looking at the floor.
I blinked. "I... I don't know... I get confident, I guess. I'm not so sure."
He looked at me. "I see... Well, I have something cooking, so I'll be leaving now. Bye." He said waving and walking out the door, just leaving before I could say anything.
His moods sure change rather quickly, don't they? I think smiling and taking a drink from the glass.
{Writers point of view}
Joel had left with a sad feeling in the bottom of his stomach.
It was true that Joel had been a lonely boy ever since he was young. He could never talk to anyone easily. He would clam up and shrink away, almost like a lot of humans do when they're nervous or shy to someone. But with him it was with everyone. Teachers, students, family members, neighbors, police officers, even with Timothy. He never let anyone so easily. He thought everyone was judging him. He thought if he didn't do something right, or say something right, the person would abandom him right away, and he could never live with being abandoned. So he just pushed the person away until their persistance weared off and they forgot about him. His mother had told him to make friends, and make sure he was having fun with his life. But his father would somehow ruin it. The new friend Joel had finally let in would hear how bad his family is and feel like having Joel as a friend was something unacceptable. So they would leave him behind.
So in by the fifth grade, Joel had sworn never to make a new friend again.
But Timothy... Timothy was something else to Joel. Almost like a savior. Or a Knight arising from the darkness Joel's father had cast over him. Shinning a light over him and promising protection, even risking his life for the teenager.
Joel had found a friend, and wanted to keep him.
He was making a surprise breakfast as a thank you for his kindness.
Or was it a hint of his care for his Knight?
Joel's cheeks tinted a pink shade. He shook the thoughts away and flipped the egg over.
Maybe he is showing his caring nature for once? I wonder... Could it be that this hurt soul is actually coming out of his little shell because he finds this Knight attractive? Oh ho ho ho~! I get it now...
Joel glared at the egg and accidentally stabbed it with the spatually, wishing it was the voice in his head hissing all these thoughts into his ear. He gasped, realizing what he had done. He looked down at the egg and felt his heart start to hurt.
Look what you've done! A dark voice screamed at him.
Joel cringed and threw the egg in the garbage, trying to pretend it never happened.
You ruined the Knight's How disgraceful! You should be beat for that! The voice screamed.
Joel's heart ached and tears formed in his eyes. 'I'm no good.' The hurt soul thought. 'I don't deserve the Knight's protection.'
He put another egg on the burning pan and sniffled, trying to make up for his 'sin'. 'If I make it faster than before and the Knight actually likes it then it will make up for that.' He tells himself as he flips it over and sees that he had done almost a perfect job on cooking that half. He smiled proudly, a tear falling down on the pan and evaporating away quickly against the heat. "There. This should be good." He tells himself outloud.
When Joel finished cooking the sunny side up egg, bacon and a few peices off toast with strawberry jelly on them he walked the food into Timothy's room.
Timothy brightened with joy as Joel set the food down in his lap and headed for the door, feeling embarassed about this. "Wait." Timothy said reaching out to him.
Joel turned around, his eyes on the floor.
"Thank you. I've never had anyone ever do this for me. So... thank you." Timothy said smiling warmly.
Joel smirked. "No problem. This was actually me thanking you."
Timothy nodded. "Yeah, I know. But still, thank you."
Joel felt his heart warm over and he smiled. "Yeah..."
Timothy looked down at the food and his eyes glazed over with hunger. A loud grumble echoed from his stomach. Timothy blushed and looked away in embarasment. "Crap..." He mumbled under his breath.
Joel chuckled. "Go ahead and eat. I already had something." Joel lied.
Timothy nodded and began eating. 'Woah~! This kid can cook!' He thinks as his taste buds tingle. 'I should have him cook more often!'
Joel watched in amusement as Timothy's eyes lit up in astonishment everytime he took another bite. "Do you like it?" He asks. Joel knew he liked it, but he just wanted to hear it.
Timothy nodded, with a mouth full of food.
Joel smiled. "Good."
Timothy looked Joel in the eye and stopped eating. "Joel?" He said blinking in confusion. "Why are your eyes red? Were you crying?"
Joel gasped and took a step back. "What? No. No, I wasn't crying."
Timothy smiled warmly. "You can tell me anything, you know, Joel? I'm here to protect you, okay? Please, tell me why you were crying."
Joel looked away. "It's nothing. I was being stupid. Don't worry about it."
But Joel wanted Timothy to worry about it. He wanted someone to break Joel's shell open and ask him everything, to want to know about him, to protect him. He wanted to be vonerable, but he also wanted to know that he was safe. He wanted his Knight to pick him up and care for him like no one else has.
Timothy shook his head. "No. I need to worry, Joel. You are my responsibility now. I can't just stand back while your suffering and crying." Timothy said.
Timothy wanted to know about Joel. He intreuged the lawyer like no one else. Joel's shell was tougher then anything he knew, and he wanted to be the first to crack it. He wanted to know his weaknesses, he wanted to know his strengths. So he could build him up and then train him not to be knocked down. Timothy found the boy to seem helpless, like it was up to him to save the hurt soul. And that's exactly what was set to do. If the hurt sould was sobbing and broken, he wanted to fix him up and sheild him from the offender. One big thing that Timothy knew hit Joel hard was Joel's father. That was something Timothy would have to work hard on that one, but he knew he could do it if he really tried his hardest.
Joel's face went red and he sat down on the bed. "I ruined your egg..."
Timothy blinked. "What are you talking about? It looks perfect."
Joel shook his head. "No. The other one. I made one before the one your eating and I accidentally ruined it. I'm sorry."
Timothy laughed.
Joel looked at him confused and concerned.
"That's all? Oh, Joel, you are so confusing. I don't care if you accidentally killed an egg. I do it all the time. Hell, I drop them on the floor when I forgot I'm even holding the d*** thing. It's okay, alright? I don't care." Timothy smiled.
Joel thought the whole bursting into tears over a ruined egg was foolish. "Yeah... It is pretty stupid isn't it?"
Timothy grinned. "I guess so."
{Okay. It is now six fourty five in the morning... and I haven't gone to sleep yet... So I think I should call it a day... or night... or morning... Whatever. I'm going to bed. Bye bye! ;P}
