52 Moons
Chapter 1
Mila walked down the side walk of despair. The sky darkened as the thunder rolled past her naive ears. Rain soaked her bare mind and cold drops of water rolled down her drenched school uniform. Her once perfect ebony black hair was now plastered against her soft pale skin. From behind the footsteps of her best friend Sholto ventured closer and closer with every meekly step she took. "Mila, Mila...WAIT UP! She continued on with her steady pace, left...right...left...right. "Mila", Sholto called running to Mila's side, "Mila what’s wrong, you haven't talked to me all day and you were missing at lunch." Mila's head lifted slowly from the ground, she stared blankly into his gentle brown eyes. "I just...” Mila muttered as he looked back into her eyes, he could see that she desperately needed his help, it pained him not to know what was hurting her. She broke the chain that linked their eyes, turning away she started walking down the sidewalk as she had done before. Sholto took hold of her cold hand in his firmly to stop her from leaving. They stood on the sidewalk, hand-in-hand, starring into one another's eyes. The rain stopped and Sholto's eyes watered as tears streamed from Mila's violet eyes, staining her cheeks crimson. He held onto her hand as they walked home without a single syllable to caress their lonely lips.
They slowed their pace as they ventured closer to a sad, gray apartment building on the eastern side of their city. The building rose up to five stories high and was crammed with multiple lower class families. Children stirred the streets, playing senseless games and vandalizing everything their eyes could reach. While walking to the glass front doors, Mila tripped on a small child's toy, which hurtled her face forward toward the ground beneath. Out of nowhere she felt a pair of hands gripped her side to stop her sudden fall, which made her give out a yelp. After being placed back on her feet, the hands moved up to the curves of her waist. She looked up at her friend, who was smiling and just gazed into his eyes. Her heart stopped and felt the urge to kiss him. They stood there for which seemed like centuries. Sholto slowly leaned forward with his hands caressing her face and kissed her on the forehead. He leaned back and looked into her glazed eyes and said, "Be careful, I don't know what I would do if you ever got hurt." He reached above his head and picked a white flower from a hanging limb of one of the cherry trees that lined the broken walkway. He held the flower in his palm for a minute, just starring at it, then he handed her the small flower. H took her hand and they walked into the building together. They walked in to the elevator, not saying a word or even glancing at each other. The only sound was the low humming of the elevator motor and the abrupt stop of the elevator on the third floor. The doors opened slowly and they stepped out into a narrow dim hallway. They walked down the corridor, stopping at a dark violet door with a silver crest in the upper center of the door with the numbers 52 barely hanging onto the door below the crest. They stood there just starring at the ground, holding each others hands. “W…w…well, I guess it’s time for you to go”, muttered Mila. “Well is guess I’ll see you tomorrow, bye Mila.” “Bye”, she whispered meekly. Sholto turned to leave but couldn’t, Mila had a tight grip on his hand. He turned back to her and moved in closer, putting his arms around her waist he pulled her closer to where he was pressing up against her small fragile frame. A tear escaped from the prison inside her eyes. Wiping away the warm tear from her face he said, “are you going to be alright?’ Her mind felt as though it was coming undone. He had never acted this way before, her face burned with the tears that streamed down her face, her heart was bursting inside her chest. She looked up into his warm handsome face and mumbled with a placid smile, “D…don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” She put her arms around him and hugged him tightly. When he loosened his grip on her she let go unwillingly. After the spontaneous embrace ended, Sholto brushed a stray bang out from Mila’s face and behind her small elf like ears. He tilted her head up with a gentle motion of his hand. He looked into her swollen red eyes, leaning down he kissed her on her burning crimson lips. He leaned back and watched her violet eyes shine like the stars. His arms fell to his sides and he turned and walked down the corridor to the elevator. He pressed a small button and wait for the elevator to arrive. When the elevator arrived the doors opened slowly, Sholto stepped inside and pressed the first floor button, the doors closed concealing him in the small elevator. Inside he leaned against the back wall of the dimly lit elevator. He could taste Mila’s tears as they burned on his lips, which were soon burning with his own tears that ran down his cold face.

- Very good for a first piece of writing. I like how you used descriptive adjectives and figurative language, but some of the metaphors you used don't really make sense, like "the prison inside her eyes." Try to keep it simple.
