Thunder Stormed Chapter 1

Stormy Weather
Mark Shay is an abnormal fifteen year old boy with a fairly muscular body, fair skin, and dark brown, curly hair. He has had problems with school and his parents are furious with him almost every day. He escapes them by going to secret place in the woods that no one else, but himself and one other person, know about. Sarah Vactor is Mark’s best friend and the other person that knows. She has good skin and light brown, straight hair and always smells like fresh fruit. She always goes with Mark in the woods so he doesn’t get hurt or lonely.
Today Mark’s parents were taking lectures down farther than anyone else could or would try to. “Why are you always hanging out with that Sarah girl and not doing your homework or helping around the house? Where do you two go any way and why won’t you tell us?” Mark’s mom would complain “Don’t talk back to your mother and me!” his dad would yell when he tried to say something “I’ll take out my leather belt and water again” he would warn him when Mark did something he thought was wrong. “The leather belt doesn’t even hurt anymore” he mumbled to himself when he walked out the room to call Sarah to go to the woods “Meet me at the Shadow behind the Trees” he said quietly “The what? Stop using codenames! It’s too frustrating!” she said back in resentment “Just meet me in the woods” he said letting out a sigh and grunt at the same time. When they got there it was windy and dark clouds acted as an omen, but Mark didn’t care, he just wanted to get away from his parents. The secret place Mark found was an old army bunker that he put some walls, a door, and a roof on made from wood and tree branches that he found in the woods. When they were there they just sat around and talked, sometimes they brought along board games to play. Today they’re just talking about anything that came to mind. They ended up staying there over three hours and the storm got worst and worst every passing second. Now it was pouring down rain, Thunder and lightning grew larger and more frequent, and wind that could blow over a house.

“The storm is getting pretty bad.” Sarah said with a soft smile “We should go while we can.” “Yeah we should…” Mark said frowning with a look outside “I bet my parents are worried sick.” Sarah didn’t know if that was sarcasm or not, but either way he climbed back out.
They were doing their best to stay under tree protection. They held each other’s hand until they got to one of their houses to stay until the storm blows over. Mark and Sarah were getting tired from the reversed wind and they had to rest a bit. They found a strong looking tree to stay under for a minute. They were about to move when all of a sudden the tree giving them protection was ripped from the ground and tossed into the storm. Neither of them had to look up to see what was just behind them. “It’s a tornado!” Mark tried to yell to Sarah, but she couldn’t hear him. They started running right when they saw the trees roots trying to hold the defenseless plant down to earth. If they were to look back they would have seen darkness, but behind it was a looming, destructive twister gaining speed every few seconds. Mark could barely see Sarah, but knew what must be going through her mind now; fear, hate, regret, and worst of all thoughts of death. He knew because they thought alike and almost at the same time, as though their bodies were synchronized and they couldn’t pull the plug on it. Then a flash of lightning showed what the tornado did; every tree behind it was pulled from land and tossed into the air. Then he realized that he didn’t care about the secret place, the trees, or even his own life, all he knew was that he needed to get Sarah out of this storm and he was going to do it if it was the last thing he did. Sarah couldn’t, and didn’t try to think she was worried that if she thought to much that she would let go of Mark’s hand and loss both their lives for nothing.
“I think we’re finally going to make it!”Mark felt a need to say something even though he knew she couldn’t hear him. “We need to keep moving! What’s wrong!?”
Then he realized what had happened when a flash of lightning showed Sarah’s face. She had fainted from an anxiety attack. He had to hurry; he threw her on his back and started running for his life. He knew with a sinking heart that it was over for both of them. He was too tired and she slowed him down, but he was determined; he knew he had to keep running. Then he tripped and thought he felt his heart stop and he blanked out.
