• Chapter Three

Second day in the apple field

As Surhomme held the bottom of the ladder, Kali climbed it to reach the branches of the apples. It is the men’s job to produce the fruit and vegetables while the women pick them. “Surhomme are you sure you don’t mine helping me, wouldn’t your brothers need you in the corn field?” Kali shouted down to him. Surhomme looked up to her with a smile on his face, “of course I don’t mine, beside you need help with this ladder it unbalance for some reason, don’t want you to get hurt do we?” she knew he was talking about her sister as well.
She stood there listening to it with wonder. The language was not spoken in hers, but she understood it. “Something about flight?” Kali whispered to herself. On the floor, Surhomme looked up towards her, watching her looking confused. “Did you say something Kali?” Surhomme asked. She glanced down at him and back at the apple in her hand. The whisper dissolved into silence. She shook her head as she went back to picking apples. She continued on thinking of where the whisper came from, it smoothed her instead of frighten her.
Surhomme holding the ladder felt a breeze of heat in front of him. He looked to find nothing but more apple trees. Just as Kali picked another apple a voice appeared from the floor, “Whatcha doing Kali?” Surhomme looked back in front of him to find a man his age leaning on a tree he had an opening jacket showing bare skin, his pants were loose but ripped at the end. He looked like trouble. Surhomme freaked out in rage. He turns to fight him when his foot hit the base of the ladder while loosing his balance. He fell to the ground as Kali tried to balance the ladder. She was late and lost her own balance.
As the ladder tipped her to the side of the tree, Kali tried to grasp the branch of the tree. She lost her grip and fell. She screamed as the fall came close to the floor. Surhomme and the boy looked up to see her in time. He jumped on his feet to reach her. Kali felt two strong arms grab her legs and her back. They landed on the floor; she was still in his arms as he stood on his feet. Kali looked to find Surhomme still on the floor with anger on his face. Kali’s eyes turn to a shade of yellow with her midnight blue eyes. She noticed she was pressing her body close to him when they landed. She was still in the same position; she could feel his chest moving to the rhythm of his breathing.
Kali could feel heat come from his body, it was smoothing but weird for thinking this and not knowing who he is. She finally gave the courage to see her savior. She looked up to find red hair flowing in the same direction of the wind. Kali gasped to find Drako was holding her with care. He smiled to finally see her face. Kali realized that he had pain in his eyes. She looked back to his chest to find a cloth wrapped around him with blood seeking through. It was the wound he had when they met in the forest. Drako finally placed Kali to her feet. Somehow she was mesmerized in his eyes; his eyes were so amazing.
The connection was broken when Surhomme shoved Drako against the tree. They both started to argue to one another, when the whisper returned to Kali. She turns in the direction of the field of apples looking for her whisperer. Kali never had the whisper until today. This was all new to her even Drako talking to her as well. She walked away from the boys to lean on a stump. The boys became aware that Kali wasn’t near them. They spun around to see her looking for something around her. Drako walked away from Surhomme towards her. He stood behind her using his hearing for any sign that might indicate what Kali was looking at.
Drako turn to look at Surhomme while giving him a smirk of jealousies. Surhomme grew bright red at him; it wasn’t that he was jealous. It was that he didn’t want Annabel to kill him if anything happened to her sister. The whisper once again died down to silence, Kali signed wanting to know more of the whisperer. She turns and ran into Drako’s chest. What is up with me and his chest?! Kali yelled to herself in her thoughts. She walked pass him to the tree with a basket of apples on the ground. Surhomme broke the silence, “Kali do you know this guy?”
She got to her feet to get her brain flowing. Drako stood at the stump looking at the field. “I do remember meet Kali and getting to know her,” he finally spoke. “I hope she remembers me,” he twisted in their direction looking at Kali with concern. She couldn’t stand see someone with eyes looking straight at her. She changed the subject. “Any way, Drako what are you doing in the open! If one of the villagers finds you, you could be killed!” Drako couldn’t help but smile, he pulled a necklace out holding some kind of medallion with a light pink stone in the middle of it. “This is the stone of amatiste,” he pointed to the stone. “This will allow me to be only seen by a person or people if I choose to be, somehow your friend could see me.
Which I didn’t want him to.” He wondered if Surhomme was a Magische Menschen like him. If a Magische choose to see someone and another Magische is there, any person of that Magische will see him. She couldn’t keep her curiosity to herself. Kali walked towards the medallion taking a better look of it. Drako place the medallion back on him. He then took out a small book with a lock on it. “I also found this at the area we met, thought it might be yours,” he placed in front of her. Kali gasped in shock. It was her dairy she wrote in while Drako slept. He saw the worry on her face, “Don’t fret my lady; I didn’t have enough courage to read what the locked book held inside.”
Kali looked up to him giggling of the weird accent he used. Surhomme walked to the tipped over ladder to replace it back up for Kali to climb. As he did that, Drako lean to her ear whispering, “I also came to see you as well. I did mean what I said that I hope that day will be soon, if I recalled.” Kali felt her heart skip a beat as he recoiled from her ear. She was about to responded when Surhomme grabbed her arm to show the farmer elders coming to check on them. She panicked and ran to the tree to pick more apples.
She went to place the apple in the basket, when she noticed she didn’t have. Kali turn to find Drako in the tree shoving the basket in her hands. He whispered that they won’t be able to see me. As the elders came to Surhomme and Kali, Drako proved that they didn’t seem him at all.

    10 minutes

Surhomme and Kali were giving a break for lunch. Annabel was done picking berries; therefore she joined them for lunch. As getting closer she saw Surhomme and another boy arguing to each other. Surhomme told him he couldn’t eat with them, while the boy said it was up to Kali. Kali spotted her sister from a distance, she ran to her with arms of greetings. Annabel hugged her sister as they stood there. Finally Annabel spoke, “Uh, Kali who is that guy Surhomme is talking to?” she pointed towards Surhomme and the boy.
As Kali turn to see that there was only Surhomme by himself with a glare on his face. She turn back laughing with her sister. Annabel stopped laughing as she watches a shadow come from behind her sister. It spoke, “Kali are you going to introduce me to this lovely lady.” Kali looked to her right to find Drako’s head lean next to hers. She laughed as introduce Annabel to him. She was shock to find how well her little sister described him as a Greek god. They all walked to Surhomme as they sat down to eat. Kali did invite Drako to stay for lunch as she pulled out her food from the basket. He sat between Kali and Surhomme; it irritated him to sit near Drako.
Annabel saw the look on his, she lean closer to him. He turns to see her smiling with passion. To him her smile clears all his thought and places happiness inside. As they at Kali started hearing a low voice, close to a whisper, near her. She places the cup of tea on the floor to see if she was just imagining it. Lucky it wasn’t just her this time. Annabel and the guys heard it as well. It was the voices that frighten Drako. He stood up as he apologized to everyone as he ran off telling them that he was being chased down. Kali knew what he was talking about.
The day they were in the forest he said he got stabbed by the general of the polizi. She knew him, but she didn’t tell Drako. They sat there as the polizi and their general rode to them on their horses. The general slide off his horse and walked towards them. Kali watched as several of the other polizi rode on. The general’s green, with yellow stars, eyes danced with interest of the game he was playing. His short hazel brown hair did not move with the wind as he bent down taking Kali’s hand and placing a kiss on it. Gross, came to Surhomme and the sister’s thoughts.
“Well good day Kali, how are thy?” he asked with his voice deeper than Surhomme’s. Kali had no interest in him at all. She answered back to him with good manners Annabel had taught her of, “A good day to you as well Juaquin, I am in good health today.” She retrieves her hand back to her lap. Surhomme thought to himself if he had to choose between Juaquin and Drako to give to Kali, it would have to be fire boy. Juaquin smiled as he spoke on, “I am glad to here that, also by any chance you seen a man near Surhomme’s age with red hair run this way. He is one of the Magische.”
Annabel looked at Surhomme and shrugged their shoulders as they shook their heads. Kali sat there as her heart thumped wildly. Juaquin leaned closer to Kali’s ear, “This man is very dangerous. He must be stop before he hurts anyone even you.” Annabel flitch as Juaquin pulled her sister’s hair back from her face. She didn’t like him touching her at all. Suddenly one of the polizi came running out from the bushes, “General we got him in a net near the ocean banks.” Juaquin smiled as he summoned for his horse. Kali got to her feet and started to run store the ocean banks. She heard Surhomme and Annabel call her, but she didn’t stop. She suddenly felt a huge arm grabbed her waist and swung her on his horse.
She turns to see Juaquin sitting behind her. “Don’t want you to be late to see my victory of destroying a disease,” he told Kali. She could feel tears wanting to burst out of her eyes. As they came closer to the beach, the net came in view. It was lashing out everywhere. The polizi did nothing but stand there watching the net. Annabel and Surhomme caught up to Kali, they stood there in shock of what was happening. Juaquin walked up to the net with his sword out ready to get rid of the person in the net. Kali couldn’t hold it any longer. She whispered as low as she could so none of the soldiers could hear her, “Drako?” The net stopped lashing out as it searched for his whisper; she caught his face it was Drako!
Kali’s right eye turn to a sunny yellow as her left one turn to a stormy gray. “Juaquin, leave him alone, he has nothing to do with you!” It was Surhomme who shouted at him. Annabel knew what he was doing; Juaquin twisted to Surhomme to give him a glare when Kali nut taped him while grabbing his dagger with her left hand. Kali ran past the polizi with the dagger pointing at them. Juaquin kneeling on the floor was yelling at them to stop her. She ran to a tree, which had the rope that held the net tied to, and cut the rope. Drako fell to the floor with a thump; As Kali ran towards him, he watched as her eyes change from yellow and gray to a caution green.
Before she could reach him a polizi grabbed her by the arm and held on to her tightly. Kali struggled with the polizi, but it was no use. Finally she yelled to Drako, “Get out of here before they hurt you!” Drako’s eyes turn to a firing red with his hair on flames. They watched as he floated off the forest floor and took of in the air. Kali smiled knowing he was going to be safe. The soldier who held Kali got angry at her, so he dragged her to the dock and threw her into the ocean.
Annabel screamed in horror, “you idiot, she can’t swim!” Kali never went to the beach with her family. Her parents were so busy at work they never spent time with her. Kali struggled to get to the surface, when the whisper returned to her.
It told her to call on the spell of help. She tried all of her might to get to the surface to say the words. Kali couldn’t get there without using all her energy and breath. So instead she thought of the spell to see if it would help. “The water around, oh give me strength to breathe the air that I seek.” At that moment her eyes glowed of forest green and her hair changed to green as well.
