I opened my eyes and found myself in a small dark room. I managed to find a light switch and flipped it on. A girl lay in her bed, barely waking up. She sat up, rubbed her eyes and stared right at me. I barley recognized her as the faerie girl from the dream. I had made it.
"Hi!" I said and waved, not really knowing what to do. She rubbed her eyes and stared some more. I never really had the chance to introduce myself in her dream, so I took the time to do that.
"My name's Desmond Krueger. Thenks for getting me out of there. By the way, I never got your name."
She let out a bloodcurdling scream that made me jump. Something at that time made me figure that she thought I was really just a dream. She grabbed the lamp that was sitting on her bedside table and threw it at me. I stood there, still believing I couldn't be hurt, but oh how wrong I was. At that point I learned two things:
1. Pain hurts, and I should avoid it all costs. and 2. When people wake up, they don't remember everything that happened in their dream. She sure didn't remember me. She picked up a pair of scissors and attempted to stab me with them. I managed to dodge it, but just barely. I manage to crawl up the wall, out of reach from the scared and defensive girl, until she found something else to throw,. She had found a whole artillary of old hair brushes and one by one, threw them at me, trying to get me off the roof. I new that the one way I could get her to listen to me was, unfortunatley, brute force. She ran out of brushes and as she started looking for something else to throw, I dropped off the roof and pinned her to the wall from behind.
"Get your hands off me or I'll get my dad in here, and he's a professional body builder!"
"Not until you agree to stop throwing things at me, and listen to what I have to say!"
"Why should I?"
"Cause I can roast you like a duck, and daddy probably doesn't want roast...name?"
"Shiloh."
"...and Daddy probably doesn't want the smell of roast Shiloh stinking up his house. Now listen. My name is Desmond Krueger. I want you to try real hard to remember my face."
"Hold on a minute, weren't you in my dream last night?"
"Now were getting somewhere."
"Yeah. You killed Freddy Kreuger. So, that was real?"
"I think. To me it was...I'm not really sure. All I know is that my dad's dead and your all safe."
I let go of her. She smacked me across the face. I now knew true physical pain.
"What was that for? I saved every friggin kid in the world, including you!" I yelped, rubbing my stinging face. She looked down.
"That was for not having the guts to kill Freddy Krueger BEFORE he got to my little sister."
The room was silent. Guilt was churning in my stomach like a bad sickness.
"I'm sorry." I said, breaking the silence. I didn't know what else to say. She dropped on her knees and staarted to cry.
"You jerk!" she sobbed. "You just sat around watching that monster killing little kids, and you didn't do one thing to try to stop it, not one thing, and now, because you were so spinless, my sister's dead!"
I just stood there, staring at her. The guilt was spreading to every point in my body. It was true, I had watched her sister sister die. I had seen her face. I had heard her screams. I had done nothing, and could do nothing to go back and change that.
"Shiloh..." I couldn't find the words to say to make her feel any better. She stood up and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"I'm sorry. It wasn't your fault. You weren't the one wo killed her."
"No, but I feel like I helped. I just sat there and did absolutley nothing as my dear old dad wiped out Elm Street, then found the power to enter all of America's kids dreams. If I could go back and stop him I would." I took her hands in mine."Let me make you a promise. I vow to never let any thing happen to you, and whatever danger or beating or injury may befall you, I promise I'll force myself to go through the same thing."
I stared into her dark green eyes and she stared back up into mine. I let go of her hands and walked to the window.
"I'll be back tonight. I want to explore around a little. I've never been out of the drean world before." I said. I winked at her and jumped out the window.
