• Chapter 9: The demon kanaye and the loss of a friend

    Kin stood at the front of the palace doors, they loomed above him once so grate and now completely covered in vines and the once beautiful mahogany wood now chipped and peeling. “After all this traveling” kin thought to himself “we’re finally here.” “Just beyond this door” said Travis “is the man who is responsible for the loss of your city and the death of the azure forest.” “I know.” Said kin “and im ready.” Kyo took kin by the hand and looked up at him “I won’t let anything happen to you.” She said “im going to be by your side no matter what!” “Thank you” said kin “that means a lot to me.” Kin placed his hand on the door and looked back at his friends “we’re right behind you.” Said akako happily as she followed close behind Travis and kyo, kin looked back and smiled he then took all of his weight and pressed against the big mahogany door, which opened with a loud creek and lead them into the palace, inside it was enormous with cathedral ceilings and crystal chandeliers that lined nearly the entire ceiling above them as they entered through the main entrance, there was also a large oak staircase that led to the upper floor and the hall way leading from the door to the staircase was lined with a silk red and gold trimmed carpet which had since been worn down to a dark reddish brown color. At the top of the large staircase there where three hallways, one that lead to the left wing of the palace where the servants and butlers would stay, and one that lead to the right wing of the palace especially made for guests, And the middle hall which lead to the main ball room where the kings throne would be found. Kin and the others made their way toward the staircase, just as kin was about to place his foot on the first stair the floor began to shake violently, then from the rafters dropped a 15ft tall liger demon, “I am the liger demon kanaye!!!” it bellowed “I was sent to keep you from reaching master radion!!!” it told them “I will not let you pass!!!” it threw it’s self in front of kin and the others. “Yeah right!!!” said kin smartly “I’ll be damned if I die by your hand!!!!” he pulled out his sword and placed it in front of him “your going down!!!” he called out to the demon. “No!” said Travis “I’ll take the demon” he said “your main objection is to find master radion” he told kin “b-but” kin stammered “just go!” said Travis as he pulled out his sledgehammer “im pretty sure I can take this demon!” “Ok” said kin “I believe in you Travis.” “Kyo and I will stay here and help Travis!!!” called out akako as she watched kin run toward the stairs “be careful!” kin called out to them. “Sledgehammer earthquake!!!” called out Travis as he slammed his sledgehammer into the ground with all his might. “Sakura dance!” called out kyo as a bunch of small cherry blossom petals rained down around her, “maple leaf cutter!!!” called out akako as she threw a bunch of blade like maple leaves toward the demon. Kin could hear his friends voices echoing as he made his way to the top of the staircase and down the middle hallway, he wondered to himself as he ran down the dark corridor what would he do if his friends voices went silent? Would he turn around and make sure they were alright despite Travis’s words? Or would he keep going until he found master radion? His mind kept racing as he ran down the hallway fighting his way through cobwebs and the thick darkness that surrounded him. And just then as he rounded a corner he heard a loud scream coming from the main entrance were he had left his friends behind, the screamed was also followed by akako’s voice calling out to it, “TRAVIS!!!!!” she cried “NOOOOO!!!!!.” That’s when kin knew he had to turn back! He ran back down the hallway and to the top of the stairs where he looked over the railing but he was to late, kin felt his heart sink and there at the bottom of the stairs he saw Travis, he was not moving and he lie on his back, a large stab wound in his chest and above him the demon kanaye stood laughing “I told you, you couldn’t win!” he laughed. “y-you basterd!!!” kin cried “you killed him!!!!” he then jumped from the railing which he had been looking over with his sword blazing! “DRAGONS CLAW!!!!” called out kin as loud as he could. The carving of the dragon in the middle of his sword began to glow and with a streak of light kin sliced down ward cutting the demon in two! “I should’ve known that the son of mamoru hoish would be no match for me…” said the demon as it’s to halves fell to the floor.” Wait” thought kin to himself “how did that demon know my father?” his thoughts we suddenly interrupted by akako’s sobbing, “Travis!” he remembered, he then ran to Travis’s lifeless body, akako was sitting over Travis’s blood covered body “why did you have to die?” she sobbed “I was just starting to realize that I loved you!” kyo took akako and hugged her tightly “its going to be alright” she said through tears “everything is going be fine.” Kin stood over the body of what he now realized was his best friend, tears began to run down his face “Travis im sorry” he sobbed quietly “if I had just stayed this would not have had happened.” Kin knelt down by the lifeless, pale Travis “everyone I know was killed the day the city of mika fell” said kin to himself “and now I’ve lost my best friend, I can’t risk…no! I won’t risk the lives of the people I’ve come to love, that I’ve come to care about” He said looking back at kyo and akako. “Both of you listen to me!” said kin as he stood back up “I want both of you to leave!!!” he told akako and kyo “b-but why?” kyo stammered “im not risking anymore lives” he said “now please kyo take akako and get out of this place, go very far away from here, im not going to loose you to master radion too.” He told her “ok” said kyo “but you better comeback a live” she told kin, she then walked up to him and pecked him on the cheek “I believe in you” she said as she walked away toward akako. She gently took akako by the hand and lead her out of the palace, “please come back alive kin” she thought to herself. Once kin knew they were out of sight he turned his attention to the staircase, “im coming for you master radion” he said “this is the final battle and I am ready!”
