My victim lay in a blanket of her own blood, holding onto her last breath. I stood over her, confident and powerful. Her clothes were torn along with her once beautiful flesh and her brown hair was matted to her frightened face.
“Adele,” Saxton warned, “hurry.”
I eyed my stern friend. His medium-length red hair was a mess and his crystal-blue eyes darted frantically from me to the girl. He removed his jacket, exposing his muscular chest and slung it over his shoulder.
I pulled out my velvet sack and crouched down to the girl’s level. Stretching out my fingers I rubbed my hand over the skin protecting her heart. I felt her pulse pick up pace and I smiled. In one quick movement, I dug into her skin, broke her rib cage, and pulled out her heart.
Saxton watched emotionlessly as I moved the heart to my moth and sunk my teeth into the squishy organ. In one quick gulp, I consumed all of life’s juices lustfully. Carelessly, I tossed the heart in the bag and handed it to Saxton.
“The sweet nectar of life resides in the heart, along with emotion,” I recited, moving closer to my friend. I came up to his shoulder and had to stand on my tiptoes to purr in his ear: “imagine what feelings a teenage girl would experience.”
Saxton hungrily slammed me against the wall and pushed himself against me. The hot passion of his kisses made me chuckle and I laughed as his mouth trailed down my neck. He bit me, and a tremor of pleasure tickled my spine.
“Saxton,” I whispered, “not here. We are in someone else’s house.”
He licked my throat before replying. “So? The girl’s dead.”
As if on cue, sirens blared in the distance. I cursed under my breath and pushed him away. Apparently he heard them too, because he ran for the door. I followed closely behind.
