There once was a boy who lived far away with
all he could have was his backpack each day. Felipe is a teenage boy
that is treated like a baby by his parents. He hated it. So one day
on his way home from school he looked for things to collect and hide
in his back pack. Felipe was walking home and looking for something
good to pick up. He saw an old man sleeping on a bench nearby. He had
been trying to write but writer's block had gotten the best of him
and he fell asleep trying to think of what to write. Felipe noticed
the writer's blank notebook and pencil on the ground next to him. as
he put the things in his bag he heard something small hit the ground.
Felipe jumped but the old man didn't even flinch. It was his cellphone.
"I could use that," Felipe thought. He picked the cellphone up and was
putting it in his bag when he heard an old woman call to him. "Excuse
me little boy, could you come over here?" Felipe knew he was caught
now, she must have seen him take the stuff. He went over anyway
because he didn't want to cause a scene."Yes, Ma'am?" He asked.
"I need help getting across the street" She replied. Felipe looked
down the small street both ways but every direction he looked was bare
there wasn't another person or car in sight. He said "Alright" as she
took his hand and began to cross. The woman dragged Felipe across the
street. He wasn't even helping at all. When they got to the other side
the woman threw her hands into her pockets. She said "Thanks for the
help, here take this!" She tossed her coin purse at Felipe and said
"Keep the change". Felipe was confused and watched her as she rushed
off, she was in a very big hurry. Felipe continued home. He had scored
big today, and he had already came up with a plan to escape his parents.
That night at dinner Felipe told his parents he had taken a job from
the Chinese woman down the street. This would work perfectly because
the purse was filled with Chinese money and Felipe would have an
excuse to be late getting home. Felipe told his parents that Chinese
money was worth a lot and they allowed him "work". The next day after
school Felipe stayed with the Band. He asked if they had anything he
could learn to play. The band teacher pulled an old dusty guitar out of
the closet and gave it to Felipe. It didn't work so well and it hurt
Felipe's fingers but he kept practicing. As the weeks passed he made
lots of friends in the band. One of his friends, Chris, gave him their
little toy magnifying glass. He said "Thanks! how can I ever repay you?!"
The friend said "Don't worry about it, It's a gift!" At home, Felipe
had been going through the newspapers after his dad had read them.
Every night he would look for phone numbers for the record companies in
the city that were looking for musicians. Finally his day came. Felipe had
learned to play all kinds of songs on the guitar, he even had his own
guitar pick. Felipe had to tell his friends goodbye and that he would see
them again soon in the future. On his way home Felipe went to the bus
station instead of his home. He sat on the bench and reached into his back
pack. He dialed all the numbers into his cell phone. He wrote down their
addresses next to the numbers and told them he would be visiting them.
There were a lot of places to go but the change purse Felipe had gotten
was filled with coins. He would have enough bus fare for about a week.
But it didn't take Felipe a week to go through his whole list. He woke up
bright and early to get on the 6 o' clock bus to the city. By noon he had
already visited his whole list of addresses, and Felipe was very hungry.
He tried going to every fast food restaurant and food stand he could find
but they would not accept his Chinese money. So Felipe stood looking in the
window to the resurgent watching all the people get their food. There were fat
little kids and their fat parents. Felipe was very envious of them he was as thin
as a rail, or at least that's how he felt... A man in a suit was ordering
his food and saw Felipe standing outside. Felipe finally gave up watching,
it was making him more hungry. So Felipe started walking back to the bus
stop. "Hey kid!" Said a voice from behind him. It was the man in the suit.
"You want a burger?" Felipe hadn't had food in over a day, and this was the
best thing he had eaten in his life. He ate the man's whole lunch. "That's
okay I'm not even hungry, and you needed it more than I did" said the man.
"Thanks mister!" said Felipe. "Say, what's a kid like you doing in the big
city without your parents?" Felipe told the man the whole story of how he
stole from the old man, got the money from the woman, and learned to play
guitar. Felipe told him his whole plan, and how it didn't work out The man
had a big smile on his face. He said "You probably thought you were lucky
for getting some food" "Yeah!" said Felipe "Well I believe you luck just
doubled because I am the head of a very popular record company" "Well I
probably already tried your company." Said Felipe "I tried every place in
the newspaper!" "But that's why you're lucky my boy! My company is so
popular that we don't advertise in the newspaper. We only go for television
commercials and big billboards." And thus Felipe became a star. The man l
helped Felipe get a big record deal and he became a millionaire Felipe went
back to his home later on. He brought his parents big sacks of money. They
were so happy to see Felipe. They hugged him and kissed him and told him
never to go again. He told his parents what he did and they realized that
they should have been more lenient on Felipe. Felipe then went to visit his
band friends. They were happy to see him as well. They said "You're so famous!
We saw you in the newspaper!" After he greeted everyone, Felipe went and found
his old friend, the one that gave him the magnifying glass. Felipe reached in his
back pack and pulled out a wrapped present for Chris. When Chris opened the
box there was a toy treasure chest inside. Felipe showed his friend that
you can put the key in the chest and push the button on it to make it play
music. He said "Oh Felipe, How can I ever thank you enough?!"
and Felipe said "Don't worry about it, It's a gift."
