Boy from the deep
Another beginning of a day, the early sun rising to kiss you with warmth. It's sister, the ocean, lapping at you toes. The smell of her perfume filling your lungs with adventure and memory of past made loves. You can feel her heavy salty blanket rapping itself around you. You know her well and she knows you. For all the years together you never get tired of her presence, and just when you think you know all her curves, she throws a new curve at you.
The fishermans true adventure is not catching the fish, its mastering the maiden of the sea everytime he fixes his sites on her. Just like a women she has a temper and you upset her she is going to crash down on you. Tensions build, men are lost to her beauty, and despite the lost you are still intranced by her.
Another day, another run with her. The air is calm, the air is soft and thin, its going to be a good day. His men run around down this and that and they are a sailing to there favorite sailor tune. One passed down by their grandpapas. A sailor grabs a guitar and plays as he works. The ship is full of life, laughter and music. The captain closes his eyes and rocks his hips to the sound, and slows the ship's moters.
"Take er' easy ol' girl, don't want to upset her too early," he rubs the wheel and continues to sway.
----------------------------
Night has fallen and the traps are set. The men are drinking up a storm, hacking and spuwing. Laughter fills his ears as the captain gives up the controls to his first mate and joins the horde. He walks into the room and the room smells of rum and whiskey are a welcoming aroma. At the sight of their captain they give a hoot and a holler. A few of the crew are already passed out and the captain has himself a chuckle.
"A good end to a good start," he says and grabs a keg of whiskey and holds it up high.
"here, here," They crew toostes to it.
The night passes and the crew's crys fall into the darkness of the sea as slumber overtakes them. They sleep until the late hours of the night, until a shriek is heard.
"Captain! Captain! Come and see this!" The first mate calls out to the night.
The Captain leaps to his feet and his men are hopping around already trying to put their boots on. The captain throws on his boots and coat and rushes out. All is dark and he waits until his eyes adjust. Then looks to his mate who points over the starboard, the captain's eyes fallow his gaingly old finger to a small floating shadow in the water. The captain gets the spot light up, and his crew shine it on to the dark thing.
"Its a body! Man over board!" They crew scream, sirens are sounded, screaming in his soul and on his ship, and the rest of the crew that was sleeping came a running. The captain pushed his mate aside and took control of his vessal. He swang the ship around just as a crackling chorus of the crew's voices rang, "There are sharks in the water! Hurry captain! Man over board"
The Captain gazed over and in the light sure enough sharks were circling around the body. The ship came up close and the men grabbed for the body, but it was pulled under just as the closest man grabbed it. Five men Jumped in with flashlights and knifes in their teeth, they looked like pirates.
The water under the light turned a tinge of crimson red and then desipated. All five men came back up with the body in hand and bloody knives. They handed the body to the men on deck, who quickly grabbed it and started CPR on it.
"Captain, It's a young boy!" on man cried and tryed to help.
The captain gazed out into the sea, but no land in site. No fire from a ship, no boards, no sign of where this boy came from. The captain's eyes fell on the small boy. He was a fine haired, young boy, in his early teens he guessed. The captain remembered the sharks and looked down at his legs. The wounds were bad, wait or so he thought. The captain stared hard at the boys legs. The wounds were gone.
"Frank! Check the boys legs for injuries! The captain screamed in order. A larger crewman walked over and closely examined the boy's legs.
"Nothing sir!" Frank screamed back.
The captain stroked his chin and just when his is about to give all his energy to the thought of the injuries he had only moments ago seen, a shadow came flying at him. The captain cried for help and looked his attacker in the eye, it was a woman. A beautiful, dark, sea blue woman with the yellow eyes of a tiger. He grabbed a light and flashed it at her, It was a shark attached to his leg. He fell into shock.
"Captain! Captain!" He heard the voices but they faded into the night and he drifted into a shock sleep. He shook and shook, but couldn't awake. Cold salty water hit his face. Out of the dark he heard, "Captain! Captain! Wake up Captain!" His eyes fluttered open and he cried in pain and looked at his leg, it was bleeding slightly. The shark lay dead next to him with a knife stuck in it's back, the captain jumped at its size.
"Good thing you had your boot on sir!" The crew chuckled and someone jabbed his shoulder. He felt the pain and knew he was awake, he sat up.
"Did any of you men see her?" Where is the women?" the captain spun his head in confusion. He saw the boys body. He could see that he was breathing. He turned his attention back to his men. "Well did you?" he asked and the men had a bewildered look on their face. Then one slapped his shoulder and smiled to the other men.
"Looks like the captain has been drinking a might too much again boys!" Frank laughed and smacked the captains arm again. The captain shook his head, but he doubted what he saw. The men were moving the boy below deck. The captain cocked his head as he noticed the boys skin was shinning a glassy blue much like that of the woman he supposedly didn't see.
"Take over I'm not a feelin' so good," he said and handed off the wheel to his first mate, who took the offer in stride.
"Aye sir, so ya have been drinking a might too much?" The first mate asked and laughed. The captain shook his head again and went over to the side of the deck and peered over. He stared across the sea and then shut his eyes enjoying the feeling of the sea, but a chill ran down his spin. He knew he shouldn't but he looked down. As his eyes fell upon the dark see below, his face went pale. For thirty pairs of glassy blue eyes stared at him, he could make out the outline of their bodys. All slithering and sliding together, he stop breathing and walked away.
"I am going below for some rest," he announced to the first mate. He went below deck and headed to his quarters, but passed by his crews sleeping quarters. He backed against the wall as he saw those same glass eyes looking at him from a bunk. He ran to his quarters, bolted the doors, grabbed his pistol and layed on the bed. He couldn't shake the fear from his heart enough to even shut his eyes, but sometime during the night he dozed off.
-----------------------
A few weeks passed without any incident, the captain had for the most part forgotten about the night, and the boy had awaken and was adopted by the crew as thier mascot. He would play so gracefully and never said much. The captain found it strange how the boy refused to eat what they were eating. They only he would eat was their fish they had caught, but for the most part the captain smiled and just enjoyed this strange boys company as did the rest of his crew.
The boy stood no taller then a household dinning room table and he was very small built. He had fine black hair that glinted blue under the sun if you stood in the right spot and his skin was finer then the captains dreams of an angels skin. His eyes scared the captain for a while, because although they were not as bright, glassy and piercing to his soul. They were still very brightly beautiful eyes.
It was the third week of sailing and the crew had already gotten half of their quota filled, and they were suppost to be out for two month. The majority of the crew was supersticious sot it made sence when they said the small boy was bring them good luck. Some of them would pass by the boy and for good luck they would rub his hair. The boy would laugh and smile the most beautiful smile.
The crew's luck run had caused an outbreak of drinking and partying for their results. The captain looked down on this for the most part but could usually be found joining in on the celebration. For five days this went on, then the captain decided it was time to put his foot down.
He woke up on one of the most lovely of days. The sky was just being split and engourged with the sun. The night was fighting the sun in amazing display of colors. The crew shortly followed him out. They all frowned with hang overs as he said today they were going back to work.
"I have family at home boys. If we can get back early that would be wonderful," the captain said with a smile. Some of the boys smiled and nodded their heads in agreement. others just gripped under their breath. The boy just sat on a crate and watched the work progress.
----------------------
The crew was in awe as they pulled in their last net. They had filled their qouta and halfed it again. "Now, boys we can enjoy ourselves. We are rich!" The captain exclaimed and the boys cheered as the captain turned the boat around.
They sailed for a few hours until darkness over took them, things were so peaceful it was almost eerie. The captain relaxed after a long day of preparing the fish. The sun still shown slightly in the west. The moon however had come out to take its place and it lit up the sea so brillantly that the captain had to cover his eyes.
Half of the crew had already retired below deck and the rest were just relaxing. So the captain took a chance to kick back and feel the wind in this hair. He closed his eyes just as the wind started picking up. His eyes flung open, the sky was black and flashing with lightening. The captain was so confused he didn't have his eyes closed for more then a few seconds and the sky had been clear. He called for all hands on deck. He looked out to the sea and a lump formed in his throat.
"LIFELINES! NOW!" He screamed at the crew and they quickly tied themselves down. The captain stared at the creatures off in the distance. The waves were just sitting there not moving. Then they seeped up toward the sky. To the captain it looked as though they had taken forms. Then those blue eyes. The captain spun around. Seven of these waves were around the ship. He quake with fear, but he almost cried as he watched the thirty foot giants realised and came crashing toward the ship from all sides.
