"Paige!?" I called as I roamed the camp ground. "Paige are you here?!" I had checked the whole camp except her tent. The reason for that was that Paige was a really woodsy kind of girl and hated to be cooked up in a tent. I stuck my head in her tent and gasped.
Paige lay across the floor of her tent. Her wrist was covered in red. Without telling myself to do so I was at her side. Blood soaked through her sleeping bag and on to the ground. A knife was latched in her left hand. Automatically I checked for pulse. There was a faint pulse so I was suddenly covering the cut.
I was doing all this without actually telling my body to do so. I felt like a puppet. I could feel another presence in the room. It was strong and powerful.
"Camille, why are you just standing there?!" I looked over at her and her expression was surprised and worried. I could feel the warmth of the tears as they ran down my face. "How can we save her?" My brain was racing through and discarding ideas almost as fast as I came up with them. The tears came harder now, not because my friend was dying but because throughout my eighteen years I had only learn to hurt people not heal. "I don't know any first aid."
She looked at me with tortured eyes. She looked like she was making a crucial decision. She looked from me to Paige and back again. Finally she sighed and said,
"If do something you have to trust me that it will work. Will you promise to trust me?"
"Yes, of course." Why wouldn't I trust her about what she was about to do? She searched my eyes.
She bent over Paige and drew a knife out of her holder on her belt. She brought the blade to her palm and sliced a clean line in the middle of her palm. My mouth fell open and a gasped escaped my mouth. She looked up as if just remembering my presence. I closed my mouth and nelt beside her.
"Lift her head." Camille said in a low uncertain voice. I obeyed without comment. Camille brought her still bleeding palm to Paige's mouth, I watched as the blood dripped into her mouth. Paige swallowed lightly. I just sat there, eyes trained on Paige's face, afraid to ask the questions that had gathered in my head.
"I guess I have some explaining to do." Camille said. I looked up at her and found her smiling a small smile.
"No doubt." I said smiling back. I looked back at Paige and saw something on her neck that I over looked before. Camille followed my gaze and gasped. On Paige's were two little holes. My head spun and finally what Camille did made sense. She was a vampire! She looked over frantically at me.
"I would never hurt Paige." She said looking in my eyes. I nodded with a hard look. I closed my eyes.
"That means another... vampire" I had to force the word out. "on the camp." She looked at me alarmed. As I opened my eyes. She was on her feet it one graceful movement. I got up too.
She reached in her belt and got out another knife but this one she handed me. I took it and looked at the case, it had a design of a rose on it and the case itself was black. The knife had a snake wound around it and it seemed to hum with electricity as I held it.
"What?" I looked up at her.
"Trust me. If the vampire is still here then you will need it. It has magic on it that will hurt any vampire." I nodded and we began to scan the camp. She stayed around me so that if it was still here then she would see if it grabbed me.
A hand appeared on my throat and the other around my waste. I froze. Camille spun to face me and a sound that could have only been a growl escaped her lips.
"Careful Camille. You don't want both of your friends gone on the same day." I could hear the smile in his voice. "You know I didn't figure you as a human lover. I always thought you were stronger." His hand tightened on my throat. I squirmed to hide that my hand went towards my belt... and the knife.
In one move swift move I brought the blade to the hand on my throat, cut it and spun out of his grasp. He grabbed for me but I sliced his other hand. He hissed in pain. Camille was suddenly there, pinning him to the ground. She looked up at me.
"Do you really want to watch?" I shook my head and headed back to the tent. I really didn't want to watch her kill him. I wasn't some squeamish blond but I was sure I didn't want to see that.
I walked back to the tent. As I knelt next to Paige I couldn't help but say what was running through my head through my lips. I pushed Paige's hair away from her face as I said,
"When you wake up you'll be like Camille, Paige. Strong, powerful and gorgeous." And Camille was gorgeous. She had blue eyes with her chocolate brown hair. Paige would look inhumanly beautiful too. Her brown eyes and red hair was sure to be amazing. "You'll be alright." I laughed. "I guess that leaves me. Human and vulnerable."
I felt, rather then saw, Camille enter the tent. I turn to her. Her hair was a little jostled and she a spot of blood on her lip but other then that she looked like normal.
"Explain." It was one word that would become all to familiar to me.
Luv Megs. Thanks for reading I hope you like.
