The night cradled their advance. Every step they took was muffled by the subtle magics they each carried. Every movement deliberate and precise to get them swiftly across the landscape. The company of five(three humans and two winged elves) came to a halt at a low buzzing noise.
"What do you have?" the commander whispers to the wizard gazing into a glowing crystal.
"Two...close to us and to our right." the spell weaver whispers back trying to stay as calm as possible.
On his words the company all turns to search for the interruption. As they glare into the barren, nighttime landscape one soldier points to the sky and alerts his companions.
The commander quickly puts a finger to his lips and whispers "It doesn't look like they've seen us yet, its probably just civilians fleeing the city before the battle starts." As he points out that it is a winged elf carrying a human woman.
Silently they wait as the two fly slowly overhead. As soon as they move directly above everyone lets out a sigh of relief as the two make no effort to slow down or descend.
A kilometer in the sky a quick kiss is shared and the blue haired winged elf whispers "Ready?"
The human wizardess nods and smiles. Her perfect face framed by her her deep blue hair.
A moment of wonder is shared in the group below as the figure seperates into two and the human plummets quickly to the ground.
"Should we help her!?" the wizard shouts unable to control himself. Watching the rest of the group separate into two, either backing away or edging forward.
Closer and closer she falls to the ground smiling and whispering something in a language arcane. She sees the two winged elves, trying to act noble, running foreward to help her and can't hold in her grin.
The wizard and the commander stand back along with a new recruit unable to believe what he just saw.
"What do you make of this?" the recruit, a young short haired human, asks the two much older and seasoned veterans of war.
Watching her come close to the ground the end of her hand lights up like the tip of a cigarette butt.
"A trap..." the commander whispers as his eyes widen and gets ready to shout to the elves to pull back.
The wizard seeing the working of grand magic shouts out words of equal power and raises the earth in front of them to create a shield of rock. A large explosion and three seperated screams support the theory. Another explosion sounds off and the earthen shield creaks in protest.
"The b***h..." the commander yells out as he pulls out a large crossbow and motions for the recruit to do the same. The wizard stands with his teeth clenched supporting the magic.
Watching from above the blue haired elf looks down and shakes his head, smiling. "Having all the fun without me?" he says to himself as he curls up his wings starting an almost deathly plummet to the ground.
With the crossbows out the two human soldiers get ready for the shield to fail. They fingered the bolt release as explosion after explosion hits the shield sounds against the other side of the barrier.
"It's done." the wizard says weakly as he slumps to the ground exhausted at the loss of power he endured. A small look of worry crosses their face as the barrier loses its magic and becomes nothing more than a pile of shrapnel for the next blast.
"Get down!" the commander yells as he takes the recruit by the collar and throws him face first into the dirt in front of them. Another explosion sounds off as the barrier explodes sending rock shards flying everywhere and leaving large dents in armor and helmet. Lifting his head up after the blast the commander inspected his surroundings. To his right the recruit lay on the ground moving trying to get back to his feet. To his left lay the wizard, still slumped over with large cuts and pieces of rocks protruding from his ropes and body.
From the other side of the barrier the wizardess stands in the charred remains of the winged elves and spins sending blasts of fire and ice away. Every spin as intricate as a dancer and twice as beautiful. She takes a moment to stop and examine her handiwork, two bodies lying face first in the dirt and the damnable wizard slumped down with his own barrier embedded in his body. She smiles and advances on the two bodies moving slowly on the ground.
The commander watches slowly out of the corner of his eye, positioning the crossbow to bring it up easily once the wizard gets into range. "That b***h isn't getting away with this." he thinks to himself as he hears a rustle to his right. The commander lets out a slight grunt trying to get the recruit to lay back down and conceal himself but is unable to relay the message without compromising his own situation.
From ahead, still on his drop, the blue haired elf watches impatient as almost all of the soldiers are wiped from existence before he can even reach the ground. Seeing the recruit try to get up from above he arches an eye brow at him and mutters "Idiot."
From the other side of the barrier, walking across the blackened earth with a small fire on the end of her fingers letting it float a few inches above her hand. She watches the fire with an intensity leaving her seemingly ignorant to all that's around her. As soon as the soldier on the left moves she lets the flame fly away from her hands watching it as it comes to her mark and whispers "Boom!" when it hits.
Hearing the explosion to his right and a scream from the young recruit sends a shot of adrenaline through the hardened soldier as he leaps up with a feral cry bringing the crossbow to point business end towards the murderer. As he looks her in the eyes and finds them startled at the sudden and quick movement he realizes hes going to succeed. With a smile he reaches his fingers out to pull the release but finds nothing but air. Following the human wizardess' eyes he looks down and sees his crossbow laying on the ground with an arrow sticking out of the end he was holding it from. "That's...impossible," he says out loud as he looks at the crossbow. Looking down to his chest he sees a hole from his shoulder and pokes his finger through it. "Oh," he mutters to himself and falls face first onto the ground draining his lifeblood into the soil.
"That was mine you know," the wizardess says walking towards her companion as he holds his large bow in his hands,"i had it all covered before you got here."
"Mitsuki you know you can't just take them all for yourself," he says as he slings the bow behind himself and advances slowly towards her stepping on blood and body parts as much as dirt. "What fun would I get to have if you did?"
Coming closer to him passing the decimated barricade that separated her from the three moments before she shakes her head with a sigh, letting her long blue hair fan out to shake out the dust and debris. She opens his arms to him as they come closer near the charred remains of the recruit. "Those were mine Raven, and you know it."
An explosion in the distance doesn't even phase them as Raven takes her up in his arms, holding her as if she was a child, and kisses her on the lips. They take a moment to smile at each other as he throws out his wings and starts running. Over the black landscape crunching stones and discarded weapons under his boots to get speed. Every so often an explosion would sound off in the distance marking another magic blast taking a life. He leaps into the sky beating his wings to get height to find the next group of soldiers, on either side of the conflict, to test themselves against.
"Hey Raven, how long do you think it'll be till this war is over?"
"Hopefully not for a long time."
