Two half-grown wolf cubs sat in the middle of the Nartuo National Forest, which spanned over 30 million acres, scared out of their wits. Their parents had been killed in a hunting accident, leaving them nearly defenseless. One was called NightStalker, the other GhostWalker. NightStalker was pitch black, her eyes an odd swirling color. She was lean and muscley, ready to stalk anything. GhostWalker was white, pure as the driven snow. She was a fierce warrior, and a fast runner. Together, they made the best hunting team in existence. Nobody could catch them, nothing could outrun them.
Staring around her, taking in the new aroma of willow and hemlock and apple trees, NightStalker looked around her, slightly worried. The forest teemed with life, overflowed with green things and was overall, a very healthy forest. She hated it. She blended in well with the forest in her home, and so did her sister. It had been snowy and wonderful for hunting together. The animals had been large and plentiful, enough to feed them for a while. They had known what technique to use there. This new place held new experiences and wonders, but also held some threats.
"Where to first, sister?"Ghostwalker inquired. She was the intelectual one, the knowledgable one. She knew different plants and their uses, and the ones that provided them with sustenance if they didn't hunt or drink. She was the follower in the family, only to show that she was gracious about it.
"I don't know. I think we should follow the scent of the wolves to the west. They smell the least hostile. What do you think?" NightStalker had the best nose, able to detect the feelings of other animals through their scent. This was useful in other wolves territory.
"I agree with you. I think we should do it openly, so as not to raise their hackles too badly."
NightStalker nodded her head. She stood up, shaking the leaves out of her shedding fur. Hunks of coal black fur went flying everywhere. Padding west, she looked back at her sister. Rolling her eyes at the impatience of her sibling, GhostWalker followed suit. They walked side by side, footsteps falling silently on the fallen leaves.
