• And Her Meaning of Christmas...?

    ~ ~ ~ ~

Looking out of the window, the girl pushed her long dark brown hair away from her eyes, only to have the rather annoying strands fall back in her face. Christmas night... She always wondered what the whole point was in celebrating some dead person's birthday. There was no meaning whatsoever to this 'holiday.' It wasn't as if people would celebrate her birthday if she died. And heck, she didn't even know the dead man personally. Having a day named for the 'Christ' Himself? That was just... weird. Kailani's soft brown eyes stared at the frosty window, watching the snowflakes drift down to the bare sidewalk ground outside. That was one thing she liked... The snowflakes. That's what the girl was. She often related herself to a snowflake whenever Christmas time came around.

    Why?

Because she, as well as many others who lived on the small planet, was different. No two people were alike. ... With the exception of twins, triplets, and so on and so forth, of course. Her eyes scanned the front yard as she frowned ever-so-slightly. What she really disliked was the fact that the passersby outside were trampling on the beautiful snow; especially the little children. A few children wearing marshmallow-like coats had the gall to make snow angels on her drive-way. Kailani wanted to yell at them, to shoo them away, but was stopped with a light, warm hand upon her shoulder.

"It's quite a sight, huh?" The boy smiled warmly at Kailani with those gorgeous green eyes of his and squeezed her shoulder, standing close behind her and gazing at the children frolicking about so freely outside. The girl's heart stopped for a moment; she had never seen him act in such a way before. She wanted to answer, 'No. Those people are destroying that beauty.' But... The smile was so dazzling on the boy's face, and she was left speechless. Pushing his girlfriend's hair behind her ear, Brandon leaned down and placed a gentle kiss upon the young girl's lightly tanned cheek, which had heat up a good deal.

As usual, Kailani felt as if she couldn't breathe just from her boyfriend's gentle touch. She shut her eyes tightly and re-opened them, staring out the window once more. The children were still outside, on the drive-way. They looked up and she gave them a glare that was meant to say, 'Get off my drive-way or I'm going to come out there and make you.' Yet, they smiled and laughed, which surprised her a good deal. Why were they...? She was--

The girl blinked and tilted her head back slightly; she soon saw why those pesky children were smiling, and raised a slender brow at Brandon. The boy was making silly faces in the window, directed at the children. Kailani bit her lip to hide a smile, trying to hold back a giggle. Brandon's silliness had never gone away, even after so many years of their being together. Kailani reached up and tugged a curly lock of the boy's short dirty blonde hair, making her boyfriend look down at her with an expression of question.

With a laugh, Kailani turned around, still in her seated position, and hugged Brandon's waist as she looked up at him. This person before her... He could make her feel so many things that she thought she'd never feel in her whole life span. She could never be upset or irritated with anyone for very long, so long as he was with her. As Brandon leaned down and hugged her tightly, Kailani then realized something, forgetting all about trampled snowflakes and pesky children.

Everyone else's meaning of 'Christmas' may be 'to celebrate the life of our Savior,' but Kailani's meaning of 'Christmas' was much more than just that... And the boy embracing her had helped her realize that.
