CHAPTER 105 - AND YOU ARE...?
So I'm home alone. No big deal, right? It is if I end up bringing back an unexpected guest.
I was awaken during the late night by my cell phone vibrating in my hand. I hadn't realized I fell asleep on the bed and the alarm clock read about two fourteen in the morning. My phone continued to vibrate and I rubbed half of the sleep out of my eyes and groaned. I flipped my cell phone open and held it weakly up to my ears.
"Hello?" I mumbled.
"Hey, I'm at Miku's parents' house," Kai whispered.
I immediately shot upright, "You are? What took you so long?"
"One of our flights was delayed due to weather circumstances," he confirmed. "We just go to the house."
"How is Toshihiro holding up?"
"He slept the whole way," Kai halfway chuckled. "Not that it's any surprise."
"I'm glad you got there safe," I sighed out of relief. "I hate flying."
"Have you ever even flown before?"
I shook my head and giggled, "No, but I don't like heights,"
"Is there anything on this planet that you're not scared of or that won't make you ill?" he laughed.
I frowned, "I'm halfway overcoming a fourth of my fears,"
"Nice improvement," Kai noted sarcastically and I knew he rolled his eyes.
"I miss you," I sighed, "already."
Kai fell silent for a moment, "I miss you too,"
"You'll be safe, right? You won't hurt yourself or others, right?"
"Yeah,"
"What about feeding?" I asked. "Be sure to feed while you're there."
"I will. I have to go now." he sighed. "I love you."
"I love you too," I smiled. "Be safe." I whispered before we hung up.
I threw myself down on my side on the bed and sighed. The light rays from the moon seeped through the partially closed blinds and onto the bed. It was incredibly calm and clear outside; it was almost eerie. I sighed in relief again that Kai had arrived safely with Miku and Takeuchi and Toshihiro. I buried myself under the comforters and attempted to shut my eyes, keeping my cell phone clutched in my hands and held close to my chest.
~*~*~*~*~*~
My body was awfully stiff when I woke up, probably because I slept in a ball all night with my arms bent up to keep my cell phone close to me. I hadn't moved an inch since I fell asleep after talking to Kai at two in the morning. I stretched for about five minutes straight, groaning at the pain of my stiff limbs. It was nearly one in the afternoon and damn near nothing to do. I hadn't realized my life would actually be boring without Kai.
Speaking of Kai; I opted to speed-dial his number just to talk to him again. The phone rang several times and a very tired-sounding Kai answered, "Hello?"
"Um," I bit my lip. "Did I wake you?"
"Yeah, actually, you did," he yawned. "I was just getting to sleep."
"Oh, you're getting back to a normal sleep schedule?"
"Trying," he yawned again. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," I twirled a lock of my hair, feeling guilty for waking him; it's a sin to wake somebody like him. "Just seeing how you're doing."
"Everything's going good,"
"Okay, um..." I paused. "I guess I'll let you get going now."
"I can talk if you want me to,"
"No, you need your rest," I lectured. "Go to sleep; I'm sorry for waking you."
He yawned once more, "Just call me if anything comes up; I'll answer."
"Okay, love you," and I hung up after he repeated what I last said.
I frowned and hopped off of the bed and got dressed. I threw some comfortable clothes on and called Manager Uratada, asking if I could come into work early. She granted me permission and told me to be there within forty-five minutes and I could be off by eight. It was finally a distraction I could have so I wouldn't be constantly worrying about Kai all the time. I was just too worried about him, about everything. I packed a small bag with some snacks for break time and hesitated to pack the Necromantic Hunter gun, not knowing if I'd get into trouble or not. I ignored my paranoid side and stuffed the gun way into the bottom of the bag and headed out to work, feeding Momo first and locking every lock on every door.
~*~*~*~*~*~
"I'm so relieved you came in early," Manager Uratada smiled at the end of my shift. "It was a little busier today."
"It's no problem; I have nothing else to do since Kai is gone."
"Oh?" she bounced Nozomi in her arms. "Where did he go?"
"I think to Kyoto," I shrugged. "My friend Miku, the mother of Toshihiro that I told you about, has parents that live there and she's bringing Takeuchi, her boyfriend and Kai went with them to be sure they arrived safely; he'll be back in a week."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Manager Uratada frowned. "If you need anything, be sure to call."
"I'll be sure to," I smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow, I guess."
"Just call whenever you want to come in," she waved at me as I departed.
I slid out the front doors--instead of the side door--and onto the sidewalk. The sun was pretty much set and it was only party cloudy. It was pretty humid and smelt like rain would approach soon but it didn't bother me too much; I didn't mind rain. I made my way to the parking ramp about three blocks from the restaurant and I took my time in doing so. It was pretty lonely in the restaurant, seeing as Kai wasn't there to keep me company. I sighed again, missing Kai dearly.
"That idiot, why did he have to leave?" I pouted.
I was approaching an alley that was about ten feet ahead of me and prepared myself because something was most likely going to pop out. I still had the gun in my bag, so I wouldn't get in trouble for using it for self-defense reasons, right?
There was the faint sound of what seemed like little feet running in the alley and larger feet right behind it. I was right in saying somebody was in the alley, but it wasn't exactly the kind of person I would have expected. I expected somebody to round the corner of the alley, and I was right, but I had to look down to see them. What looked like a five-year-old girl shot out of the alley and as soon as she saw me, she darted right behind me and clung to my sweat pants. I was about to ask what was wrong until a taller girl stepped out of the alley. She looked around my age...and mean.
"Make her go away!" the little girl cried, clinging onto me tighter.
"What?" I looked down at her then up at the other girl.
The girl in front of me looked threatening, too threatening for a normal human. Her hair was snowy white and barely reached her neck and there was a braid on the right side of her head. Her eyes were a deep brown and there were a few small tattoos under her eyes. She had such a strange attire too, almost like an assassin. In her left hand was a pistol, a metallic pistol much like the one stowed in my bag; was she a Necromantic Hunter as well?
She glared at me with menacing, piercing eyes and down at the girl behind me. The girl clinging onto me was shaking violently; why was this Necromantic Hunter chasing her? Before I could interrogate, the older girl disappeared. I had a feeling it wasn't the last I would see of her. I dropped my bag to the ground with a loud "clang" and dropped to my knees in front of the little girl. She continued to sob and look down at the ground. Red was dripping from her and I lifted her chin only to see her eye had been gashed deeply, sending blood pouring out. I swallowed my nausea and grabbed a sweatshirt from my bag and pressed it against her eye.
"What's your name? What happened?" I tried to act calm.
"Th-that lady--she--," she was unable to finish and she only continued to sob.
"Calm down, calm down," I repeated to her, reminding myself to calm down as well.
I pulled the sweatshirt away from her eye and the gash was already halfway healed but her eye was still shut. I pressed the sweatshirt against her eye again and cupped the other side of her face with my other hand. She glanced over at my wrist and in a flash, her tiny fangs were stuck in my wrist. Out of immediate reaction, I pulled my hand away and winced.
"I'm-I'm sorry," she cried again.
"You're a Vampire?" I whispered.
She nodded, "Y-yeah,"
"Hold this to your eye," I ordered and she did as I said. "I'm going to take you with me."
I grabbed my bag, stood up, and grabbed her hand. I hurried her to my car, looking around in every direction on the way. I was expecting that other girl to pop up, but she was nowhere in sight. I just knew it wasn't the last I would see of her. We finally made it to the parking ramp and we climbed into my car. I hurried out of the ramp and sped home, nearly going the same speed Kai was. I had no clue who the girl was but I had every intention of helping her, even if that meant Kai couldn't help.

- So she is going to help a little vampire? The little vampire is unpredictible and might bite her in her sleep, I see nothing wrong with that. *rolls eyes* Well hopefully since she is young she can be taught to be like Kai. You know how you said my predictions were close? the ones before we got into that "fight" are they going to be wrong now and this little girl is going to change that. cause new ideas are flowing through my mind.
